Perikles app for iPhone and iPad

Perikles is an application for the American voter. It will display the upcoming ballot, who will be listed on that ballot, what they are promising to accomplish, how to register to vote, and where to vote.

The hope for this app is to have a democracy where voters know about all the items on the ballot and who all they could support. All candidates who will show up on the ballot for the given area will have a platform on this application, the only rule restricting them is no muckraking. They can put anything they desire for their bio and their policy statements, as long as it does not speak ill of their political opponents or other groups. The reason for this being that in a democracy we have a responsibility to hear all ideas and weigh them to select what direction we desire to go as a nation. Those ideas should not just be opposition to another’s ideas, but what will be done to address the problem.

The namesake for this application is Pericles of Athens, one of the elected kings of Athens. He dedicated his life and his ideals to the preservation and improvement of democracy as an institution. That is the hope for this application, to preserve and improve democracy as an institution.

In this first version the app is limited to a growing list of Universities in Illinois.
